“By having to come up with 60 plot points, I really had to think about my characters. What little hiccups could come along the way to mess things up? What biggies could rock their world?” ~ excerpt from Creating My Plot: Very Detailed to the Nitty-Gritty

“In the book, Chelsea and Clint vow to never live timidly, and to never take the cowards way out again. As a storyteller, Holly follows her characters advice. Her characters live and breathe, and in the end, become a part of you.” ~ Blurb from Spotlight Review: Holly Schinderl’s PLAYING HURT

“Writing can be so lonely—staring at a screen and a box all day, getting carpal tunnel and a stiff neck. We create imaginary friends every day and most of us talk to them. We need social interaction with others, and who better to understand our madness then a fellow writer?” ~ excerpt from Community Building

"Drafting the query and sending it out has to be one of the most talked about, most feared, and most important parts of the entire writing for traditional publication process. As the saying goes, you only get one chance to make a good impression, and with so many agents not even wanting a writing sample pasted along with your query, you really have to nail it in order to even have a chance at seeking their representation." ~ excerpt from The All Important Query

Carving Our Own Destiny: Kick Off Post (Add YOUR Links Here!)

I LOVE Authors. I love traditional authors, indie authors,self-pub authors, and aspiring authors. In a way, each and every one of us in that spectrum is Carving Our Own Destiny. We are following our passion, doing what we love, putting ourselves out there, and risking rejection of our beloved babies, all while probably while facing a few doubters and haters along the way. Writing is hard. Writing is personal. And writing is scary.

While I think each and every person who risks putting their soul on a page is brave and deserves recognition, I wanted to take a week to highlight some author friends of mine who are taking the idea of "Carving Our Own Destiny" very personally. They are pursuing publication outside of traditional methods, taking the manuscripts they've slaved over and putting it out there on their own terms.

And these ladies are thriving.

The truth is that it benefits every writer, whether your intention is to go traditional, to go indie, or to go self-pub, to learn all you can about each avenue because the industry, it is a-changing. So this week I'm welcoming some wonderfully talented ladies, far more qualified than I, to teach all of us about the various aspects of what it means to go the 'non-traditional' route. We have tons of how-to posts, personal testimonies, interviews, spotlight reviews, and giveaways.

Most days will have SEVERAL posts, spread out throughout the day. Please check back often and if you think you may have missed a post, hop on over to the designated page for all the Carving Our Own Destiny posts here.

Now, here is some housekeeping information for YOU:

GIVEAWAYS: We have a bunch of free ebooks to give away this week! There are tons of ways to enter to win. Winners will be drawn randomly and all winners will be announced Monday. Please be sure to leave a way to contact you!!

Here's how to enter:

--Every comment you submit, in any post, gets you a point. The more you comment, the more chances you have to win.
--Every Tweet for every post gets you another point. Be sure to include me on the tweet (@EndingUnplanned) and if your twitter "handle" is different then the name you use in the comments, make sure to give me a heads up so I can find you.
--If you are a follower of this blog, you get another point. Just be sure to note that in your comments.
--And finally, many of our authors have Amazon pages they will be directing you to. If you go over and "like" their pages, hop back on over here to let me know, and I'll hook you up with two extra points for each author.

Authors: it's not too late to offer up your own ebook to our prize pack. I will be announcing all the ebooks up for grabs on Thursday, so if you'd like to offer something for the giveaway, please contact me at Rachel@RachelHarrisWrites.com

COVER MY BUTT DISCLAIMER: Ha! Some of the posts are still rolling in and let me tell ya, I love them! These ladies are real and honest, and do NOT hold back their opinions. That is what I want! I want REAL testimony. I want to know why these authors decided to go the route they have taken. Stepping on egg shells and beating around the bush is not gonna help anyone. THAT BEING SAID, I feel to cover my own butt, I should state the obvious: The views expressed in these guest posts do not necessarily reflect the blog owner's personal views.

Whew. Now that THAT'S out of the way, the only thing left is to ask you to:

JOIN US:  This is where I invite YOU to be a part of this week. If you've ever reviewed an indie or self-pub novel, link it below. If you've done an author interview, link it below. If you have ever done a post on ANY topic pertaining to indie or self-pub, link it below.

You get the point.

I hope you have fun this week and hopefully learn a thing or two. I know I will!

In my very first interview, EVER, I name Indies as my inspiration, choosing them over the "greats".

There is a reason I did that.

Like Patti said "who doesn't love Indie Writers"???

Good on you Rach!
