“By having to come up with 60 plot points, I really had to think about my characters. What little hiccups could come along the way to mess things up? What biggies could rock their world?” ~ excerpt from Creating My Plot: Very Detailed to the Nitty-Gritty

“In the book, Chelsea and Clint vow to never live timidly, and to never take the cowards way out again. As a storyteller, Holly follows her characters advice. Her characters live and breathe, and in the end, become a part of you.” ~ Blurb from Spotlight Review: Holly Schinderl’s PLAYING HURT

“Writing can be so lonely—staring at a screen and a box all day, getting carpal tunnel and a stiff neck. We create imaginary friends every day and most of us talk to them. We need social interaction with others, and who better to understand our madness then a fellow writer?” ~ excerpt from Community Building

"Drafting the query and sending it out has to be one of the most talked about, most feared, and most important parts of the entire writing for traditional publication process. As the saying goes, you only get one chance to make a good impression, and with so many agents not even wanting a writing sample pasted along with your query, you really have to nail it in order to even have a chance at seeking their representation." ~ excerpt from The All Important Query

Looking Ahead With Victoria Scott #FlirtSquadResolutions

I met Victoria Scott around the beginning of my writing journey. I was a few chapters into My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century, and she had just finished one awesome book and was starting to plot another book of hers. You may've heard of it--The Collector??

Yep, I was blessed  to be a critique partner on this book and fell in love with Dante from the start. I also fell in love with Victoria Scott's writing and her extreme loyalty to her friends. And ya'll, the girl is just smart. Like crazy smart. She's one cool chica.

2013 is a big year for Ms. Scott, but it's only the beginning. She has so much excitement ahead and I can't wait to see where life takes her.

Today is the second to last day to enter the MEGA PRIZE PACK for this month's Flirt Squad Challenge. To learn how YOU can win 11 books and a TON of swagalicious prizes (including goodies from The Collector), head to THIS POST for all the details. Get those tweets in!

Here is Victoria's Dante based New Year's Resolution:

And here is what is in store for Tori this year:

2013 is my debut year. It's exciting and nerve-wracking and mind-blowing. It feels like a year of change. A year in which I can do anything.

Like resist eating oatmeal chocolate-chip cookies even though my mom made them from scratch.

Or exercise even though my tennis shoes totally need a good cleaning and maybe I should do that instead.

Maybe, maybe I can even focus on meditation versus stressing the hell out at every opportunity.

But let's get real. Above all of those things, I should probably just try being honest with myself and say that in 2013 I'm going to be a cookie-eating, exercise-shunning, stressball of semi-happiness that, yes, has a book debuting. Amen.

What 2013 Holds for Busy, Busy Cindi Madsen Plus Giveaway Details

Cindi Madsen is my girl. She was one of the first author's we featured on the Flirt Squad, spreading the word about her debut, Demons Of The Sun. Then she hit us again with her cool as hell thriller, All The Broken Pieces. And then this month, her adult romance debut, Falling For Her Fiance, hit virtual shelves everywhere...and is kicking major sales butt!

Cindi is one busy woman, with lots of projects in the works, but she stopped by to share with us what 2013 holds for her. Before we get to that, a reminder that our first Flirt Squad Challenge of 2013 is coming to an end... don't miss the chance to win a TON of books (including an ebook copy of All The Broken Pieces) and help promote your favorite books!

HERE is the link for all the details, and here are the resolutions Cindi--or should I say her main character Liv--shared with our readers:

  • In 2013, I vow to check some things off my need-to-experience list, like Liv & Spencer do #FlirtSquadResolutions http://amzn.to/RvlLpr
  • In 2013, I will be like Liv and learn to go after what I want, even if I might fall on my face #FlirtSquadResolutions http://amzn.to/RvlLpr

Take it away, Cindi!

This year is going to be filled with writing, editing, more writing, and more editing.

In addition to working, though, I’m making a goal to take some time off here and there to read for fun and spend time with my family. They’ve been very patient and encouraging on this journey, but sometimes there’s computer envy, and I need to remember to step away from my computer and even my phone and give them the love and attention they deserve.

I’ll also be attending Romantic Times this year, and my goal is to squeeze as much time and fun as possible with the awesome people I’m meeting up with there.

I’m pretty much obsessed with music, so I’m also looking to go to more live shows and have already lined up two—Imagine Dragons and Three Days Grace!

So here’s to making sure this year rocks!

What Chloe Jacobs Has Up Her Sleeve for 2013

Hey Gang!

Hope you're having fun tweeting and reading all the Character New Year Resolutions and earning those points...That's one huge prize pack, and I'm telling you, all those books rock :) Thanks for helping us spread the word about these great titles.

As you know, Chloe Jacobs has joined us for the January Flirt Squad Challenge. She's giving away an ebook copy of Greta And The Goblin King, a book that I had the pleasure of giving a blurb to (my first ever), and here's what I had to say:

"Dark and beautiful...Jacobs paints haunting pictures with her words."

If you haven't gotten to read Greta And The Goblin King, trust me, you want to.

So with the release of Greta in the world, 2012 was definitely awesome for Ms. Jacobs. What's in store for 2013?? Take it, Chloe....

2012 was a whirlwind for me from beginning to end. I don't think I stopped to take a breather the whole year. In 2013 I want to try and dial things down just a little bit, enough to give myself some more time with the family. My son is ten years old already! I can't believe it, and I don't want to miss anything. I keep thinking that pretty soon he's going to want nothing to do with his lame-ass parents, so we need to take advantage of his time now, when he still thinks we might be cool :)

On the writing front, I'm already busy in 2013. I'm working on a few projects under my pseudonym, and as Chloe Jacobs I'm writing more GRETA! I can't wait for everyone to see what else is in store for her and Isaac and the lost boys. In addition to that, I have this other story in my head. It's about glass houses breaking, and adventures, and little boys who love dragons!

2013 is going to be so exciting!!

Thanks, Chloe! And don't forget to head over to the January Flirt Squad Challenge post to learn how you can WIN 13 books and tons of swag-a-licious prizes!

Kicking off 2013 with a Mega #FlirtSquad Challenge!

Happy January!

There's something about the start of a new year. A fresh slate. An entire 12 months set before you, all filled with possibility. With the excitement of new beginnings in the air, it seems like an excellent time for another Flirt Squad challenge :)

If you're new to the game, let me quickly explain what the Flirt Squad is.

The Flirt Squad is my super awesome street team, and along with helping spread the word about my own books around release time, we like to spread the word about other fabulous books and authors.

We have regular giveaways and challenges, and members earn all kinds of prizes. To become a regular member of the Flirt Squad (and have a chance to not only earn tons of swag but also get your name in the Acknowledgements of my book or even become a character!) head over to my Flirt Squad Page for all the details.Go ahead, we'll wait (*grin*)

Back? Awesome. Because this month's challenge is BIG. And believe me, you're gonna want to play along.

Since January is the month for resolutions, I thought it would be fun to play with that idea. I've asked some of my good friends to join in, and not only did they say yes, but they've also thrown in prizes!

All month long we'll be "meeting" these authors, getting to know what 2013 holds for them, and what their personal New Year's Resolutions are. And all month long you'll be earning points in order to win the goodies they've brought to the party.

Here's How To Earn Points

Along with guest posts featuring them throughout the month, each of the participating authors have crafted New Year Resolution tweets for the main characters in their books. It's a fun way to get to know their books and characters better. And copying these tweets is an excellent way you can let others know about these fabulous books.

If you are new to these challenges, you can leave a comment below with your contact info to let me know you're playing along (and so I can find you if you win!), and then jump in and start playing!

***Regular Flirt Squad Members--Since so many of us enjoy tracking points (and chatting) via the always fun Google doc, I've created a special one for this challenge. Email me (FlirtSquad@gmail.com) if you did not recieve the email with the link!***

The tweets are listed below and all you have to do is copy and post them--each tweet equals one point. I"ll be following the hashtag to award your points.

Yes, you can tweet more than one of the tweets listed below each day.

No, please don't tweet the same tweet more than once per day. Spread the love around :)

Just A Suggestion: while there isn't a limit on how many tweets you can send a day (other than not the same one more than once), I highly suggest you either space them out or limit them or you may just drive your followers batty!

For an additional 10 points, you can also do a blog post about the event. Tell me one of YOUR New Year's Resolutions, and include which of the characters tweets below is closest to your own. Link back to this post and either tweet it out with the hashtag (#FlirtSquadResolutions) or leave it in the comments below, and I'll award the additional pointage.

This challenge will run until February 1st, 2013.
