“By having to come up with 60 plot points, I really had to think about my characters. What little hiccups could come along the way to mess things up? What biggies could rock their world?” ~ excerpt from Creating My Plot: Very Detailed to the Nitty-Gritty

“In the book, Chelsea and Clint vow to never live timidly, and to never take the cowards way out again. As a storyteller, Holly follows her characters advice. Her characters live and breathe, and in the end, become a part of you.” ~ Blurb from Spotlight Review: Holly Schinderl’s PLAYING HURT

“Writing can be so lonely—staring at a screen and a box all day, getting carpal tunnel and a stiff neck. We create imaginary friends every day and most of us talk to them. We need social interaction with others, and who better to understand our madness then a fellow writer?” ~ excerpt from Community Building

"Drafting the query and sending it out has to be one of the most talked about, most feared, and most important parts of the entire writing for traditional publication process. As the saying goes, you only get one chance to make a good impression, and with so many agents not even wanting a writing sample pasted along with your query, you really have to nail it in order to even have a chance at seeking their representation." ~ excerpt from The All Important Query

Cover Reveal! the Dark by Heather Self

You guys know how much I love cover reveals, right? And how I get extra stoked when it is for a friend, an author who I know is made of awesome, and I genuinely just adore? Well today I get to do it again, and this time it's for the uber fabulous, Heather Self!

~dances~

the Dark (A Kin Series novella)

By Heather Self, Coming 12/31/12

Mary Anne Moore doesn’t know what she is. She can’t explain why she has lived so long.

Or why she never gets sick.

Or why the dreams she has come true.

She has hidden herself as a lowly servant to the households of Dublin's English elite for decades, until the night that changes her life. Now her sole purpose is the child she never expected to have. She will do anything in her power to keep the black-eyed monsters from discovering him and turning him into one of them.

For Kieran Moore the dark is an ever-present parasite, waiting to devour his humanity. His mother’s love and the girl in his dreams has kept it at bay for years, but the more time that passes—the longer he has to wait for her—the  more it grows. When tragedy strikes, it is all he can do to keep from being consumed by the darkness that infects him. He must continue to hold on to the hope of peace her presence will bring him, because it’s not just his fate on the line, but that of the entire world.

**Note** This novella takes place both before, and concurrently  with events that happen in the One. It is highly recommended it be read first.

So....what do YOU think of the cover?? Creepy, cool, gorgeousness, right?

My New PM Announcement!! REARVIEW MIRROR, a YA Thriller

So I'm just filled with good news lately :) Two weeks ago I shared my exciting Author Endorsement from Lisa T. Bergren for My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century, and then yesterday I shared my beautiful new Countdown Button for my debut. Well, today I have exciting news about a brand new book that I've been dying to tell you about!

Here is the Publisher's Marketplace announcement that went live Friday:

Author of MY SUPER SWEET SIXTEENTH CENTURY Rachel Harris's REARVIEW MIRROR, in which a girl hears her dead best friend's voice, and with the help of her best friend's brother, begins to uncover the truth about what happened the night she died, to Stacy Cantor Abrams at Entangled Teen, in a nice deal, for publication in 2013, by Lauren Hammond of ADA Management Group.

SQUEE! I am so excited about this book for so many reasons....one, it is set in my hometown of New Orleans. Two, it's a thriller, a completely new and different genre for me. And three, it gets back to my roots of dual character POV with both a boy and girl narrator. I love stories where I get the full picture from both sides. And it means I get to be with Entangled Teen some more. Yay!

Question for YOU: While this is completely plotted out and I've written a partial, full drafting begins next month. And the rest of this month will be spent reading tons of thrillers...and most likely being scared out of my mind, LOL. Can YOU tell me your favorite thrillers/mysteries that you think I just have to read to help prepare? And if you want to tell me why you love it, that would rock, too :)

Victoria Scott's THE COLLECTOR: A DANTE WALKER NOVEL

Happy dance time!! One of my critique partners and friends, Victoria Scott, has some big...and delicious...news to share today. Her baby, THE COLLECTOR: A DANTE WALKER NOVEL, has a beyond HOT cover, and it is with great pleasure that I share it with you....

.....Just let it be known now that me and Trisha Wolfe totally called dibs on him like a year ago!

Dante Walker is flippin’ awesome, and he knows it. His good looks, killer charm, and stellar confidence have made him one of hell’s best—a soul collector. His job is simple, weed through humanity and label those round rears with a big red good or bad stamp. Old Saint Nick gets the good guys, and he gets the fun ones. Bag-and-tag.

Sealing souls is nothing personal. Dante’s an equal opportunity collector and doesn’t want it any other way. But he’ll have to adjust, because Boss Man has given him a new assignment:

Collect Charlie Cooper’s soul within 10 days.

Dante doesn’t know why Boss Man wants Charlie, nor does he care. This assignment means only one thing to him, and that’s a permanent ticket out of hell. But after Dante meets the quirky, Nerd Alert chick he’s come to collect—he realizes this assignment will test his abilities as a collector, and uncover emotions deeply buried.

And if THAT'S not enough to get you completely drooling, here's some of Dante's best lines:

Yeah, he does.

But what a way to go....

Sigh.....
THE COLLECTOR releases March 2013. Add it to your TBR pile on Goodreads HERE!

Swoon Thursday: Swooning Over Rich Boys by Jenny O'Connell

It's that time again! We created a HOT meme over at YA Bound, and if you're new to the game, here's how to join in the fun:

From the book you’re currently reading, or one you just finished, tell us what made you SWOON. What got your heart pounding, your skin tingling, and your stomach fluttering. Shout it out on Twitter with the hashtag #YABound, post it here in the comments, or grab the adorable button above and share it on your blog! We want to know :-)

Without further ado, here's mine:

I scored a fun find at my local Half-Price bookstore this past week, RICH BOYS by Jenny O'Connell. I've read and loved The Book of Luke and Plan B by her, so I knew this would be a fun treat...and I was right :)

Finally Jay pulled away, a look of surprise & delight on his face. "I wasn't sure you were going to let me do that"-RICH BOYS Swoon #YABound

I'm sorry, but that description--a look of surprise and delight on his face--just gets me totally. Can't you picture a total hottie staring at YOU that way???? :) Here's the extended bloggy version:

Jay brushed his fingers against my face, moving my hair back, and I found myself moving toward his touch until our lips were pressed together, his tongue gently parting mine, his hand moving to the skin on my neck and pulling me against him. And instead of moving away I slid across the seat until there was no space between us, because it felt amazing and wonderful and even though every muscle in my body ached I wanted to be near him. Finally, Jay pulled away, a look of surprise and delight on his face. "I wasn't sure you were going to let me do that."

For TARA, KELLY, and TRISH'S Swoons, head over to today's post at YA BOUND to check it out!

AND NOW IT'S YOUR TURN: In 140 characters . . . or, perhaps a bit more if you need to cheat LOL, SWOON us!

Reveal: Greta and The Goblin King by Chloe Jacobs

Oh the gorgeousness of which I am about to reveal......

For those of you who haven't heard of Chloe Jacobs, or the upcoming GRETA AND THE GOBLIN KING, take note now. This author, and this book, are going to take the YA market by storm. I didn't even get to see the full blurb until this post, but I heard snippets of what it will be about--my favorite being the comparison to the movie Labyrinth--and I was already hooked. Then I read the official blurb and saw the amazing cover, and I am busting and twitching for the calendar to hurry up already and flip to November 13th!!!!

So, I am uber excited to share with you the book that has me all kinds of twitchy with eagerness.......

GRETA AND THE GOBLIN KING

Coming November 13th, 2012, with Entangled Teen

While trying to save her brother four years ago, Greta was thrown into the witch’s fire herself, falling through a portal to a dangerous world where humans are the enemy, and every ogre, goblin, and ghoul has a dark side that comes out with the full moon.

To survive, seventeen-year-old Greta has hidden her humanity and taken the job of bounty hunter—and she’s good at what she does. So good, she’s caught the attention of Mylena’s young Goblin King, the darkly enticing Isaac, who invades her dreams and undermines her determination to escape.

But Greta’s not the only one looking to get out of Mylena. The full moon is mere days away, and an ancient evil knows she’s the key to opening the portal. If Greta fails, she and the lost boys of Mylena will die. If she succeeds, no world will be safe from what follows her back…

Is that not BEAUTIFUL?????

Be sure to come back by in September when I get to reveal an exclusive excerpt! (I can't freaking wait lol!)

Until then, be sure to add it to your Goodreads to-read shelf, and snag a copy early over at Barnes and Noble. Then hang out with the author at Twitter, Facebook, or her website. Here's a little more about the mastermind behind Greta, Chloe Jacobs:

Chloe Jacobs is a native of nowhere and everywhere, having jumped around to practically every Province of Canada before finally settling in Ontario where she has now been living for a respectable number of years. Her husband and son are the two best people in the entire world, but they also make her wish she'd at least gotten a female cat. No such luck. And although the day job keeps her busy, she carves out as much time as possible to write. Bringing new characters to life and finding out what makes them tick and how badly she can make them suffer is one of her greatest pleasures, almost better than chocolate and fuzzy pink bunny slippers.

So, what do YOU think?
